IS 'THE SHIRE'
Sutherland Shire is the envy of all Sydney, regarded as “God's country” by Shire residents, due to its cultural homogeneity, strong European heritage and beautiful environs. However, the dark clouds that have been hanging over the Shire in the last few years finally let loose on the 11th of December 2005. What we saw at Cronulla on that day were young Australian men and women doing essentially what the NSW Government and Police hierarchy had failed to do - protect the residents of Sutherland Shire from outsider racist mobs.
Failure of Government
We cannot find fault with the motivations of the young people down there that day, defending, as they saw it, their way of life. In the fall-out, a number of businesses in Cronulla have suffered some economic loss, largely as a result of the NSW Iemma Government advising people to stay away from the Shire, but also because of people staying away due to fear - fear that the NSW Iemma Government is incapable of providing a safe family environment by properly enforcing law and order, which was demonstrated on the nights of the 11th and 12th of December 2005 against Shire residents.
Failure of Multiculturalism
Australia First Party
In the weeks and months following December 2005, the media seemed to harbour a resentment of the Sutherland Shire - it was described as an “Anglo enclave”, and a forum was held at Gymea Tradies [in March 2006] in which anti-Australian racists from south-western Sydney came over to tell Shire residents that we are “racist rednecks”. A young student even said that basically, our way of life was not worth keeping if it offends others - which is the very antithesis of Multiculturalism; after all, isn't “celebrating diversity” the core tenet of the Multicultural ideology? Then why is it offensive for the Shire to be seen as an “Anglo enclave” when suburbs like Lakemba and Bankstown are seen as “Muslim enclaves”? The Multiculturalists are the real racists, not us!
Fighting for the future!
The Sutherland Shire is one of the last true representations of the Australia that our forefathers had in mind when they formed our first Federal Government; indeed, one of the first acts of the new parliament was to legislate for a 'white Australia'.
The Shire represents all that is great about Australia and what our diggers fought and died for; and, though we cannot claim to suffer the same privations that they suffered, we fight the same fight.
